How long does a  DWP budgeting loan take to  be processed  - July 2021


 If you are on a benefit that makes you eligible for a budget loan from the DWP then you may be aware of the new digital process which is making them easier and much less time-consuming.



      The old process -

  1. You would apply online and then wait for a text message saying it was received, this would take a few days to a week.
  2. After 2 weeks on average maybe more you would get a letter with a loan offer for you to accept repayment terms and post back.
  3. including delivery time and then processing by the DWP this stage would average another two weeks.



The process would usually average 4 weeks which I think made some people take out high-interest payday loans or sell items at places like cash converters and the like, budget loans were not seen to help in crisis getting people into further debt even though the DWP resource was there it was purely a timescale thing.



Whats changed with DWP budget loans in 2021 


The timescale has been cut down to 7 days in most people cases unless further checks or verification of benefit entitlement needs to take place, the only other caveat is that if not processed in that time period it can be then sent through the above method but from people, I have spoken to they have an average of 5 days of getting the loan and a payment date.



The new process for DWP budgeting loan 2021


1.Apply online 

2.you will have the option to be replied to by post or email if you want the faster route to suggest you choose to email.

3.you will get an email saying they are processing your loan application and a decision will be emailed within 7 days.

4.a decision will be sent to you, I have heard of people getting an offer the very next day as these are automated.

5.accept the offer they will be a link where you can accept it online.

6.you will then receive an email maybe the next day or up to three of four days which will give you a payment date normally three days from the email.


so there is no more time-consuming delivery and processing and waiting for reply slips and sending back acceptance and declaration that is all online now.
